Introduction
It's the eve of the last of my three big tours this autumn based in Thailand. Originally it was to be a long tour, longer than the other two but it has since been scaled back to just nine days. There are a number of reasons for this change but one is certainly down to travel fatigue. Trying to add provinces and districts that I’ve never visited before can be hard work but I'm satisfied with coverage so far and this upcoming tour will add at least one other province and substantially increase coverage of others.
Day 1, Friday 18th November -
Pak Chong
No Rooms at the Inn.......As we make plans for departure an issue which we've encountered before comes to the fore. In a world that seems to be short of everything, we find booking suitable accommodation quite difficult. It never used to be like this. Even booking days ahead doesn't guarantee better locations will be found, especially at weekends. Quite a lot of work becomes necessary to get this tour up and running.
Family Business.......Excepting that this is a shortened tour, opportunity arises to take advantage of this by adding a couple more Thai League 1 fixtures in provinces located along our direction of travel. Was this the plan all along I wonder? Additionally, it allows Katoon to pay a family visit stopping off overnight in Pak Chong on the most suitable day. Pak Chong is two and a half hours from the residence but there is shopping to do first as the plan is for home cooking tonight. We leave around 10am and I know there is limited opportunity to visit attractions today. The one advantage that Pak Chong has is in its elevation which will prove more comfortable than the cauldron in Bangkok and as if to stress this point, at midday there is a thunderstorm in the mountains of Khao Yai.
Our journey to Pak Chong today means this tour too hasn't started and the day ends with a casual walk near the hospital after dusk.
