Dong Lakhon Archaeological Site, Mueang Nakhon Nayok District, Nakhon Nayok Province

Other Provinces

With the provinces of Chaiyaphum and Loei accounting for almost two weeks of this tour, it is not the attention here to submit detail on neither of the other two provinces of Nong Bua Lamphu and Khon Kean relating to stopovers nor the three other provinces where there were additional site visits. I could not even begin to sum these up with so little time spent in them. They appear in the blog as the icing on the cake after the primary tour objectives were met and they certainly didn’t disappoint. Neither of the provinces mentioned had site visits recorded before and particularly with Khon Kean we hardly scratched the surface. In the case of Udon Thani, two valuable days were spent, with Phu Phra Baht Historical Park proving the star attraction while with Khon Kaen we would definitely have missed out if we had not waited the extra day to visit Phu Wiang Dinasaur Museum. The trip around the Ubolrattana Reservoir was also amazing. Finally the excursion into Nakhon Nayok to add Dong Lakhon Archaeological Site missed off a previous tour made the final day special.
With the exception of Nakhon Nayok all the provinces listed above, lying to the east of Chaiyaphum and Loei, are in the area generally known as Isaan. All six provinces have this in common and have similar dialect, culture, art and architecture, having been at one time part of the Lan Chang Kingdom ruled from Luang Prabang.
