Wang Nam Khiao District
Nakhon Ratchasima Province
Wang Nam Khiao (Thai: วังน้ำเขียว) is a district in the southern part of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, northeastern Thailand. The minor district Wang Nam Khiao was created by separating four tambon on April 1, 1992 and upgraded to a full district on December 5, 1996. Neighboring districts are (from the north clockwise) Pak Thong Chai, Khon Buri of Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Na Di, Prachantakham of Prachinburi Province, Pak Chong and Sung Noen of Nakhon Ratchasima again. The district is subdivided into 5 subdistricts (tambon).
The so-called Switzerland of Isan, together with its widely known motto “Cool-climate town, abound with mountain ranges, (the Sankamphaeng Range mountainous area is located in the southern section of this district).plenty of waterfalls, several fruit orchards, vast paradise of fog” cannot be anywhere else but Wang Nam Khiao district. The town of Wang Nam Khiao itself is a magnet for those wishing to experience the natural beauty of the district. In temperate conditions from here you can visit local plantations of coffee, grapes, salad crops, mushrooms and flowers while the forests are abundant with wildlife. In this district also is located the tranquil Lam Phra Phloeng Reservoir while at the western edge is the significant Khao Yai National Park.
Most visitors will arrive from Bangkok by taking National Highway 1, then turning east onto Highway 33 in Nong Khae District, Saraburi Province before taking Highway 304 north on exiting Kabinburi. Wang Nam Khiao lies at the northern end of the pass dividing Prachinburi and Nakhon Ratchasima Provinces.
