Sargiyeri Martyrs’ Cemetery lies at the head of the Zığındere Valley (known to the Allies as Gully Ravine). The Battle of Gully Ravine, 28th June to 5th July 1915, resulted in stalemate with the Allied objective of capturing the small town of Alçıtepe ending in failure. The Sargiyeri Martyrs’ Cemetery lies less than a kilometre to the north of the town and contains the remains of Turkish soldiers who died during the battle.
