New Zealand National Memorial, Chunuk Bair, Eceabat District, Çanakkale Province

The tapering stone pylon of the New Zealand National Memorial at Chunuk Bair, designed by the NZ architect S. Hurst Seager, stands 20.5 metres high. Before the fire of 1994 New Zealand manuka trees stood in the surrounding shrubland. There memorial was erected 'In honor of the soldiers of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. 8 August 1915. From the uttermost ends of the earth'. It is 50 metres north of the left flank of the Turkish trench taken by the forward elements of the Wellingtons on 8 August.
