Wat Phra Nong Din, Wiang Lor Ancient City,
Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province

Unlike most other temples, the principal Buddha image at Wat Phra Nong Din sits at ground level instead of on a base. There was an attempt by the public to build a base for the image but it turned out to be unsuccessful. The image was therefore known as Phra Nang Din, literally ‘Buddha sitting on the ground’. Legend has it that the image dates from the time of the Lord Buddha some 2,500 years ago.
Note that this information is taken from the nearby Tourist Authority of Thailand information board and is remarkably similar to that found at Wat Phrachao Nang Din in Chiang Kham. The ruin itself consists of the rectangular base for the viharn with a replacement Buddha image in white.
