Ku Kha Chao (City Pillar), Wiang Lor Ancient City, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province

Located outside to the southeast of the Wiang Lor town wall, Ku Kha Chao has no distinct record for its construction, the name ‘Kha Chao’ given due to some Indian elm trees formerly found on a mound in this area.
The principal features are the square base for the chedi and traces of a rectangular base presumed to be the viharn.
The key artifacts found at this site are sandstone fragments of a Buddha image, some earthenware animal figures and fragments of pottery from the Lanna kilns. From these finds and the architectural evidence the temple can be dated from the 16th/17th century and was in use until the 19th century when Wiang Lor was abandoned.
Based upon the recent site visit it appears that the base of the chedi now has a city pillar of contemporary style and this is shown on Google Map.
