Wat Prasat is of historical and archaeological significance. A stone inscription from Wat Tapotharam mentions one of the abbots of this temple who was invited by the king of Chiang Mai to join in a religious ceremony. This temple is located within the old city wall and was restored continuously even when the Lanna Kingdom was ruled by the Burmese.
