Rooster Steps, Chulamanee Pagoda,
Wat Khiriwong, Nakhon Sawan

The Rooster Steps are located at the rear of the Chulamanee Pagoda at Wat Kiriwong. Accepting that there are magnificent views of Nakhon Sawan city at this location anyway, there is also deep historical significance here. The steps lead up to a shrine to King Naresuan the Great (1590-1605). The roosters that line the steps, typify those found in similar shrines; a symbol seemingly created from the love of cockfighting attributed to this monarch.
