Monument No 1, Khok Mai Den Ancient City,
Phayuha Khiri District, Nakhon Sawan Province

The base of a brick and mortar stupa was discovered in 1964. It was built to a square plan measuring 14.20 x 14.20 metres with a height of 1.70 metres. The level of the base is circumambulatory divided into small square niches. There are also columns decorated with sculptures and stuccos. In the middle of the first level of the base there is a protruding row of bricks measuring 2 metres. It is assumed that this is a stairway. The component parts of the stupa are in ruin but it is assumed that it was of a hemispherical mound shape after parts of the top of the stupa were discovered. It was built in laterite in the form of rings.
The objects discovered from the archeological excavation in 1964 included a picture of a Chantan elephant shot by an arrow, Sonudorn huntsman, Singha, Brahman on a swan, garuda, stucco of a Hasadeelinga bird of Dvaravati art (7th-11th Century) and limestone axes. Moreover, evidence that Monument No 1 has undergone at least two building phases have been discovered. The first was the construction of the base of the inner stupa. Later there was further construction to expand the size of the circumambulatory by building the brick frame of the outer base. It was then filled with red earth and covered by bricks on top.
