Museum of Petrified Wood, Ampoe Mueang District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province

The Dinosaur and Ancient Elephant Museums are parts of the Northeastern Research Institute, Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University. The museums are designed to be fun as well as educate. Visual displays, exhibits and videos draw you in to the importance of fossils in the study of pre-history. While a useful section is dedicated to the study of dinosaur fossils, an unusually large section is dedicated to the study of ancient elephants, a class of surprising variety. In recognition of the study of fossils exhibited here together with other geological and historic studies, UNESCO has declared five districts in Nakhon Ratchasima Province part of a new Geopark.
