Bueng Nong Sarai, Don Chedi District,
Suphanburi Province

Bueng Nong Sarai in Nong Sarai district, is an archaeological site northeast of Don Chedi town. It lies 3 km from Highway 3038. This site has a large natural lake and is important place in Thai history since this is the place where the elephant battle between King Naresuan and the King of Burma occurred. King Naresuan rested his troops here because there was enough water for a hundred thousand soldiers, elephants and horses. Moreover, the location was on higher ground some distance from the enemy. At the time it was swampland (bueng in Thai means lake or swamp) but today there is not much water left (only 29 rai). Left in a pitiful state, in 2006, 11 million baht was invested by the then Prime Minister working with the Fine Arts Department to create a memorial to King Naresuan. The result is a splendid rectangular lake with a pagoda in the middle connected to a bridge. The location is so peaceful now, so fitting for any battlefield and of great credit to those who created the commemoration park.
