An ancient temple dating back to the Lopburi Era (9th – 12th century), Wat Klai Kangwon lay abandoned for a long time but underwent major restorations in 1967. Ruins of an ordination hall remain at the top of the hill. A panoramic view of the area and a large replica of the Lord Buddha’s footprint are other highlights of the temple. The footprint lies inside a huge concrete dome suggesting a mountain top. The annual Tak Bat Devo ceremony, where food is offered to Buddhist monks, is held here. A concrete wall measuring 5,000 meters in length encloses the temple and is also the boundary for a wildlife reserve where deer and other creatures roam freely.
