Malacca (Melaka in Malay) is easily reached by air or road. There is an international airport and a regular national coach service to and from Melaka Sentral. The nearest railway station however is in Pulau Sebang (30km). Most tourists head for the Old Quarter, a UNESCO heritage site so steeped in history. Accommodation along the picturesque Malacca River is ideal for exploring the old town. It’s so very easy to underestimate what’s here so it’s important to plan a stay e.g. checking museum opening days and the Jonker Street night market.
