Krabi.......This is town on the west coast of southern Thailand at the mouth of the Krabi River where it empties into Phangnga Bay. It is the capital of Krabi province, reporting directly to Bangkok, a privilege it has enjoyed since the 1870s when it became independent from Nakhon Si Thammarat. It has a population of some 25,000. Tourism has now become an important especially since the opening of the airport in 1999.
Ao Nang.......Ao Nang is the prominent bay around the headland to the west and within easy reach of Krabi Town. It is fast becoming a rival of Phuket and Koh Samui. Its location and stunning scenery has ensured it’s attraction for a variety of activities from kayaking, snorkeling, diving, sailing and rock climbing. A number of smaller bays, such as those at Railay, created by the rocky coast add to the beauty of Krabi’s coastline.
Koh Lanta.......This island, located at the extreme southeast quarter of Krabi province, is a larger island reached by car ferries. Its popularity has risen in line with that of the province in general reached by van or car in around 2 hours from Krabi. Resorts have sprung up appealing to sun worshippers worldwide. Lanta is now firmly on the tourist map offering everything necessary for a beach holiday. The local community is now no longer dependent of fishing, adapting to the needs of tourists instead. Just 20 years ago Lanta was only for the adventurous with accommodation just 50-100 baht. Now you will pay more than 1000 baht!

Dining out
Most resorts serve Thai (southern, muslim influence) and Western Food. There is no shortage of choice or variety. Most independant restaurants are in Baan Saladan. The rates are reasonable for an island. Fast food stalls can overcharge foreigners so it's often better to use established restaurants with fixed menus or use one of the 7Eleven franchise outlets
