Pantai Cenang Beach Pantai Cenang Beach…….This is the most popular beach in Langkawi, featuring fine white sand with many beachfront restaurants and bars along its 2km length. It is located at the south-western tip of the island, about 13kms from Kuah and 7kms from the airport. Pantai Cenang boasts a wide range of accommodation, restaurants offering ethnic and Western foods, a few bars, shops and minimarts. There are moneychangers, banks, travel agents and duty free shops. Motorbike rental is also available.
Luxury resort at Pantai Tengah Beach Pantai Tengah Beach.......Situated to the south, around a small headland, Pantai Tengah is a basically a continuation of Pantai Cenang Beach. There are a few basic chalets here but this beach is noted for its all-inclusive resorts which are especially popular with young families. The view of the islands which form the archipelago including Pulau Dayang Bunting Geoforest Park are impressive. These can be reached by boats hired at the pier on the beach.
Airport viewpoint.......The Airport Viewpoint is located on Jalan Padang Matsirat (Highway 112). There is a car park from which a path ascends to a rocky outcrop. From here there is a splendid view of the airport to the west and the ocean beyond. To the right is a magnificent view of Gunung Machinchang and the Cambrian Geoforest Park. To the left is Pantai Cenang.
Nature Park, Cameron Highlands Mardi Agrotechnology Park.......The Agrotechnology Park is located in the Cameron Highlands in the centre of Langkawi Island, an area endowed with inexhaustible historical, natural and human riches. It was first established by the British in 1925 as the Federal Experimental Station credited with the introduction of tea bushes. It then developed to include an English Garden with strawberry and cut flower production. Today the research continues with the production of tropical fruits and grapes. There are three main attractions:-
(a) Tropical Fruit Farms.....This park consists of more than 20 seasonal and non-seasonal fruits. There are guided tours around the farm and the opportunity to taste the tropical fruits at the buffet counter.
(b) Grapes Trail…..This area provides the opportunity to pick some of the local varieties that are produced here and to learn about the growing of grapes.
(c) Recreational area…..This area in a preserved natural tropical forest provides camping, fishing, trekking and an adventure into the heart of the forest canopy.
View from Gunung Raya Gunung Raya.......Gunung Raya is an ancient granite dome, the highest peak on Langkawi Island and located in its centre. At 881 metres in height it can be reached by a mountain road 12 kilometres long. The lookout tower at the top of the mountain is a perfect place to rest and enjoy a coffee and a hearty meal. On a clear day the views of the valley are as magnificent as you could wish. The thickly forested and dense tropical overgrowths make for excellent adventures and provides for alternative access to the summit. A forest path was completed in 2001, just 3.1 kilometres long with a rise of 732 metres and 4.287 steps. The journey time is 2 hours 15 minutes. At the top there are spectacular views of the island archipelago to the west including the dolphin shaped Tepor Island believed to be part of a meteor.
Tanjung Rhu Beach Tanjung Rhu Beach.......Tanjung Rhu lies in the northernmost tip of the island. It's a quiet and pretty enclave, shaded by whispering casuarina trees and fringed by centuries-old limestone caves and uninhabited islands. Scenic and untouched, Tanjung Rhu is home to one of Malaysia's most unusual ecosystems. Mangroves, waterways, limestone crags and sandy beaches make it a nature lover's paradise. Its peaceful location offers an alternative to more lively Pantai Cenang and contains some exclusive resorts.
Ayer Hangat Village Ayer Hangat Village and Hot Springs.......Ayer Hangat Village is a cultural entertainment complex built around the Telaga Ayer Hangat hot springs. It is located in the north of the island near the intersection at Ayer Hangat on the road east,Ayer leading towards Kilim Karst Geoforest Park. The village has day-long cultural activities for visitors, such as making local handicrafts, planting padi, playing some traditional Malay sports or learning traditional dances like the Ronggeng or Joget. The hot spring has three tiers with varying temperature levels for those who feel like a dip. Entry RM4.00.

Kilim River Kilim Karst Geoforest Park.......The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is one of three national parks on Langkawi Island occupying the northeast and eastern coastline. It actually consists of three river estuaries that stretch from the Kisap village approximately 10 km to Tanjung Rhu. They are all interconnected. The area is rich in wildlife including eagles, hairy nosed sea otters, brown winged kingfishers, monitor lizards and swimming macaque monkeys. Limestone, inherently porous, forms caves and there are several in the mangroves. One of Langkawi's natural beauty spots is the Pirate Lagoon just outside the river. This is a collapsed cave with a sea entrance to a hidden lagoon with towering, limestone escarpments and smaller caves. Another cave is home to bats. At the Park office on the mangrove lined Kilim River, tours to these marine locations can be arranged. Boat hire starts at RM250/hour but pre-booked tours (from any travel agent) can be arranged for RM40 for a day-trip including lunch and pick-up from your hotel.
The Black Sands Black Sand Beach.......Black Sand Beach is located 2km to the west of Tanjung Rhu Beach, in the centre of Langkawi's north coast and about 19 kilometer from Kuah. Large amounts of tourmaline and ilmenite washed down from the granite of Gunung Raya get washed up on this beach especially in the wet season giving it its fascinating but not inviting black sands.
Machinchang Raya view Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park.......Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park is one of three parks on Langkawi and its islands. Machinchang Mountain, on Malaysia’s northwest frontier hosts some unique flora including climbing bamboo (Dinochloa Malayana). It hosts Malaysia’s oldest rock, the Cambrian Machinchang Formation (550-490 million years), sediments forming the birth of the country. The hard sandstones have resisted weathering over time producing an outstanding landscape of ridges, spurs, deep narrow gorges, valleys, steep cliffs, waterfalls, sea fountains, sea cliffs, sea scarps, headlands, sea caves and remnant islands. As well as preserving these important features the authorities have invested in facilities for tourists including a cable car and spectacular skywalk.
Pantai Kok Beach Pantai Kok Beach.......Pantai Kok Beach is located 12 kms north of Pantai Cenang on Langkawi’s west coast. It’s also the gateway to Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park. The beach along Pantai Kok is dominated by mostly high-end upscale resorts like the Sheraton and Tanjung Sanctuary. The beach is beautiful with clean sands and clear waters but its the rugged terrain, as well as the relative peace and quiet that makes this place so popular. On the waterfront, at Teluk Burau, is the spanking-new Telaga Harbour Park and within easy reach is the Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park with its cable car ascending to Machingchang Raya, the Oriental Village and Seven Wells Waterfall.
Telaga Habour Telaga Habour Park.......The spanking-new Telaga Harbour Park at Teluk Burau, has a yachting marina with a string of shops, bars and restaurants, plus a petrol station, bank and post office. In high season boats depart from here to Koh Lipe in Thailand.
Perdana Quay.......Perdana Quay is just a short distance from Telaga Harbour Park. It is the most elegant dining distinct in Langkawi, This is the place to come if you want a huge variety of great food accompanied by posh surroundings and fabulous scenery. Here you can get Spanish tapas, classy Italian, Chinese, Middle-Eastern, Japanese, or Russian food. Perdana Quay was constructed to resemble a Mediterranean coastal town, its European looks unique to the island.
Langkawi Cable Car Langkawi Cable Car.......The very popular Langkawi Cable Car is located in Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park just north of Telaga Harbour, Pantai Kok, with the entrance within the Oriental Village. It provides an aerial link from the Base Station near Burau Bay Resort at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is also the location of the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The total length is 2.2 km to the Top Station at an elevation of 680 metres. From the Middle Station at an elevation of 650m above sea level there is the option to trek up to the viewing platforms. It was officially opened in 2003.
Street view, Oriental Village Oriental Village.......The Oriental Village is situated at the base of Gunung Machinchang in the Cambrian Geoforest Park. It’s one of the major attractions on Langkawi designed specifically for tourists. Here the island’s culture and tradition can be appreciated while enjoying a wide variety of modern facilities and services. This one-stop centre is built around the Base Station of the Langkawi Cable Car. There is a campsite, elephant adventure park, animal garden, children’s play area, cafes, shops and a food court.
The Seven Wells above Telaga Tujuh Seven Wells Waterfall.......The Seven Wells Waterfall (Telaga Tujuh) is located just a short distance up the valley from the Oriental Village at the base of Gunung Machinchang. From the car park it’s a ten minute walk to the base of the falls best approached by using the steps then along a path to the left. Beyond this, steps lead to the top of the waterfall where the seven wells (rock pools) can be found. The 367 steps can be negotiated with average fitness but can take up to an hour allowing for rest stops. The effort though is certainly worth it as the rock pools and slides are cool and inviting. Taking a towel and swimwear is certainly worthwhile and there is a functional and clean toilet block. For experienced hikers, trails lead into the mountains from Seven Wells.
Crocodile Adventure Land Crocodile Adventure Land.......Crocodile Adventure Land or Taman Buya is located at Kubang Badak, some 32 Km from Kuah Town on the eastern fringe of Machinchang Cambrian Geoforest Park . It is home to more than 1,000 crocodiles of various species, with a few alligators and other reptiles. Although popular with visitors the results of inbreeding have created its share of unnatural and unhealthy examples such as a crocodile with no teeth and one that can pull a cart. Entry is RM20 for foreigners.
Temurun Waterfall Temurun Waterfall.......Temurun Waterfall is Langkawi’s tallest waterfall, just a short walk from Datai Bay, located in the north of Machinchang Geoforest Park about 42 km from View from Detai Bay Kuah town. It is a high seasonal waterfall with a 30 metre sheer drop, best to be visited in September-October when rainfall is most constant and predictable. At the base is a popular and refreshing mountain pool just deep enough for a swim.
Detai Bay.......Detai Bay is a small bay with a classy beachfront on the rocky northern coast of Langkawi Island surrounded by the Machinchang Geoforest Park. Its spectacular location on the Andaman Sea has attracted some luxury resorts including The Datai Resort and The Andaman Resort. Here also is Detai Bay Golf Club offering a full range recreational activities.
