There have been no issues at Goodwill Resort overnight. Although a little cramped for space in the room, we can use the porch as breakfast space. That works well, but our attention turns to planning the remaining two days of this tour. It's such a hard decision to make but we decide to leave. We're heading back to the mainland to make things easier on our way back to Bangkok and to open up new opportunities that we don't have on Koh Chang. Still, I'm sad to leave the resort and will miss the chance to make this a more relaxing day.
We depart at around 10:30 AM and head for the ferry pier. At Koh Chang pier, there is quite a queue of vehicles waiting to board stretching out along the main road. This is one of the factors I've had to consider in deciding to depart early. When the wait extends to over 2 hours, I begin to wonder what everyone is running away from! By the time we reach the mainland, it's well after 1:00 PM.
We start our journey east, but there's the matter of lunch, and I have something in mind as we cross into Chanthaburi province. It's been a long time since I visited the area, locating a seafood restaurant on the Welu estuary, and I search for it on the map. The map turns up something interesting, but on arrival we realise there's an error on the system. We've wasted the good part of an hour just to take photos of the estuary. So, let's try again. Finally, I'm sure I know where it is, and after another half hour we arrive at Kwian Hak, where there is a boat pier I recognise. What follows is a repeat of a journey I took in 2019. We park up, and immediately there is a man waiting for customers. He calls a boat, and soon we're heading out on this huge waterway. It's an amazing 10-minute boat trip to Farm Boo Nim, famous for its boo nim, soft-bellied crab, as well as other types of seafood. This area has such an abundance of it. We arrive at the restaurant and repeat that amazing experience we had some time ago.
On the menu today is that soft-bellied crab, sweet and sour sea bass, and oyster omelette, and that's taken an hour to order and consume. It's 4:00, and we still have traveling to do. From the car park, there's another 2 hours of driving to complete. We should arrive at our destination just as it's getting dark.
Our accommodation tonight was selected as an alternative for staying near the beach, but with the detour in Chanthaburi, the advantage of that is now limited. We arrive at Banyan Resort @Rayong on the beach road and check in. I've paid more than I normally would for an overnight stop and expect a bit more comfort. The accommodation we've selected here consists of detached bungalows, which are refreshingly modern. The interior of the one we're led to has been fitted out to a good standard, but it's the bathroom that's eye-catching, fitted out in three compartments with the latest designed sanitaryware. The bungalow overall does seem worth the price, but for me, there's one obvious thing missing, and that's a counter or table I can work on. There is a slatted table out in front of the bungalow but hardly sufficient for my needs. However, I need to rest after a long day, and those needs are met. Tomorrow is the last day of this tour, and it should be action-packed.
