So the departure day for Thailand is here, but first, I have to endure a dreary autumn day in the UK with plenty of rain about. The journey starts at 1.00 p.m. with the usual 33an bus service to Gloucester but then differs as I will take a Flixbus to the airport. This is a new service and much cheaper than National Express at just 10.99. However, here there is an issue. The company has seen the need to employ a replacement bus in plain white livery. The interior looks ok, but a sticker in front suggests that this vehicle is used on school runs. It soon transpires that this bus is far from the standard expected from Flixbus. To be frank, the toilet is disgusting, and smells permeate throughout the bus. It proves difficult to get some rest after a very early morning for me. Fortunately, things run smoothly after that as I navigate the new automated check-in system at Heathrow Terminal 2.
A minor issue arises after boarding as a lady seems to have an issue with me checking for overhead locker space; I think her name was Karen!. Fortunately, I chose a good seat for comfort and find myself seated next to a friendly passenger. The Eva Air flight BR 68 takes off on time at 9.20 p.m. This is going to be a long one of around 11 hours.
