Châteauroux - 4 July 2025

Our stay in Paris has ended. In terms of visiting one of the most classical and romantic cities on earth, this is sad but in terms of planning logistics, it's a mighty relief. Our stay in Poissy has had many negatives, but it's sure been an experience. There's now time before departure to clear up and pack and we're ready for the journey south after checking out.
Today is a day of transition and only the 2nd full day driving in France. Initially things are slow-going. It's as expected since we are still in the Paris suburbs. Things won't improve anytime soon either as I choose a route that avoids tolls. We make our way down to Orleans using the D2020 and our first stop at a retail park at Saran where we locate a Carrefour superstore. However, we are still carrying stock; all we really need is the toilet and a snack lunch. At this halfway point there are still 2 hours to go to our destination today.
We continue south on the D2020 though Salbris but at Vierzon we are directed onto the A20 heading for Chateauroux. Taking the bypass, we locate Premier Classe Chateauroux without the need to go into the city, It's a job done for today.
Premier Classe Chateauroux is part of a national chain of hotels although, this one is actually a motel which is perfectly suited to those passing through, like us. For the first time this tour, there is ample free parking and on checking in, there is a buffet breakfast too. Then locating the room there is another surprise. The room has air-conditioning; three pluses so far. At Carrefour, we bought half a roast chicken with wedges. Well, they have a microwave in reception. Of course there has to be something that isn't 100%. The room is well, let's say tiny, but still functional. They certainly have thought the design through with a capsule type bathroom, a larger version of what you might find in a touring caravan. Still, everything works and we can employ our electric cool box and even the food warmer. Curiously, there is just the one electric socket making the extension lead I bought, essential. Tomorrow we will complete our journey south to HPB Constant.
