Bangkok - 23 April 2025

Our little excursion to the 'seaside' is at an end as we make preparations to leave, a tour cut short by my feeling not well enough to complete it. Overnight, the sneezing and runny nose has reached its peak and today is all about managing the situation. On a dive with air-conditioning on, I should be fine, fine enough to make a detour before returning to Bangkok. For now though, I risk a short walk to the water's edge and look around as if saying goodbye to an old friend. But is hot again and almost unbearable as I shuffle into the car.
We first proceed to Laem Charoen where the Rayong River discharges into the sea at Pak Nam. At present things are still quiet, but there are signs that it won't be for long. Equipment is being unloaded for a rock concert on the beach with a stage and all supporting equipment being set. It's a great location but the way the area is being fenced off suggests it won't be free. It will take some organising and evidence is that there will be a one-way system operating on the beach road. Well, good luck with that, but we're heading north away from the action.
Returning to Bangkok can be quick and trouble free but only if you use Tollway 7. Any other way will take much longer, but then time doesn't concern us that much particularly as there are things to do on the way. Today however, we will not be using the coastal roads as we have other plans requiring a detour.
We find rural road 3574 which takes us through sleepy villages completely at odds with the coast and head into rural Chonburi province crossing HWY 344 that leads to Chanthaburi and Trat. We can now use HWY 331 taking us into Chachoengsao province and on into Prachinburi. Here an important highway, No. 33 crosses west to east and could in future link Myanmar with Cambodia, but we continue north reaching Prachinburi City where we pause for a train. The Ordinary Train is for Khlong Leuk on the Cambodian border. With a mini break out of the way, we make the final 30-minute journey to see what is happening at the build site.
There's been no contact with the landowner for awhile but in order to get paid he needs to have almost completed the landfill with soil and rock. When we arrive, much of the shaping has been done except to where we intend to build later in the year. The visit is inconclusive as we finally head for Bangkok.
Understandably the day is awkward in the heat as I battle with a cough and cold. This has affected my apatite as all I want to do is grab a snack and get back to the residence and rest. Tomorrow could be another busy day.
