As expected, it's been a rotten night as the head cold kicks in. There is just the one consolation in that we have no plans today; I could just find a comfy chair and stare at the ocean all day. After the usual improvised breakfast, I take it easy but by late morning decide to go out if only to find lunch.
From the hotel we head west along Moonlight Bay with nothing particular in mind but in view is the huge Map Ta Phut industrial complex. Thailand has its own gas and oil reserves off the coast here and the petrochemical industry at the complex is vital to the Thai economy. Within the complex is a rail yard where I've had success in the past, seeing a train departing north with 'wet' natural gas. Unfortunately, this time I'm out of luck as I reach the terminal. There is just one stationary engine in the yard. We head back towards Rayong where there is an unscheduled stop.
At some point before I return to the UK, I need my hair cut. I find a barber offering a good rate and that will save a job later. It's time to find that lunch as we head for the coast at Suchada Beach. We soon locate a local seafood restaurant on the beach with good views of the ocean. So far, I'm coping with the head cold, but it's very hot again. We finish the meal and dwell awhile taking advantage of the view, but I soon feel the effects of a restless night and have to call it a day. It's then the unexpected happens. Katoon, who is normally so meticulous, mislays the car keys. We search high and low for the best part of a hour, but the keys don't appear. With not a great area to search around the restaurant, it's bewildering. Time is ticking on, and we start to inquire about calling a garage. I also advise on a change of plan whatever else happens. We will be returning to Bangkok tomorrow a day early missing out on another football game. It's big ask anyway with how I feel. It's a situation I can do without. Now, where on earth are those keys? Then just as emergency measures are being put in place, the keys turn up the the lady's toilet. It's both a relief and surprise that the keys were hanging behind the door. Panic over, I can finally get back into an air-conditioned room and don't plan to leave for the rest of the day.
