There is no intention today to go sightseeing, but we need to go out to clear up a couple of outstanding jobs. We First, head for the IT section in Fashion Island. My Samsung A25 has been overused recently and the screen is broken. That's easily fixed. Now it's time for shopping for things Katoon will need on here visit to the UK at the end of the month.
We next Head for Nong Chok where there is a land transport office and where my partner can apply for an International Driving License. That too is easily fixed. So what next? Well, a simple lunch with do for a start.
We could just head back now and be satisfied, but we each find something that will prolong the journey. We head south into Chachoengsao province to a temple my partner has identified.
Wat Wirachot Thammaram is a new temple with no expense spared on its construction. This Buddhist temple is exquisitely decorated and painted, boasting numerous standing statues of the Buddha. The temple's walls are whitewashed and adorned with intricate patterns, while the grand hall, cathedralesque in proportion with spire of similar design to the one at Wat Sothon Wararam Worawihan in Chachoengsao, features towering columns and opulent gold accents. Such lavish design is typical of some modern temple builds that can be found up and down the country. The complex itself consisting of more gleaming halls is not huge by some standards but still dominates the skyline. Now it's my turn to find something that was never built into the plan for today.
When my partner mentioned Nong Chok, I saw the opportunity to visit the railway station at Chachoengsao extending the journey, but I didn't want to make this a full day. Then a little research lead me to consider the train station of Khlong Luang Phaeng just 15 minutes away. Here there are options to see late afternoon train arrivals. I arrive in the nick of time to see a Kabin Buri/Bangkok service then wait for a delayed train going in the opposite direction. Lastly, a train arrives from Chuk Samet heading for the capital. Three trains in a hour is a good result, but I hoped for more. Khlong Luang Phaeng lies on the freight line between Lat Krabang container yard east of the capital and the deep sea port a Leam Chabang. A passing freight train would not be unreasonable to expect, but I'm out of luck. Still, it's a good result overall.
Returning to base there is another impromptu stop. There is a fresh seafood outlet on HWY 304 into Bangkok where live prawns are held in tanks. So it's prawns that can't be any fresher, in butter for dinner washed down with a beer. It's been an interesting and productive day after three days of inactivity.
