Na Hin Lat/Pak Chong - 20 March 2025

Today is once again about dealing with personal matters as appointments come thick and fast, but visits to attractions can't be ruled out. We head off again to the building plot but on entering Nakhon Nayok province Katoon finds a temple which deserves investigation.
Wat Lek Thammakit in Ban Na District, is an old temple built in the late Ayutthaya period besides the Nakhon Nayok River, originally called Wat Bang Or Nok. It is a temple that King Rama V used to take lunch on the way to Prachin Buri during one of his excursions. Later in 1947, this temple was renamed Wat Lek Thammakit, which means 'Honorable Temple' by Phra Kru (Master) Satthapinan. At present, although the temple is mostly recent, one thing that draws tourists and those interested in ancient relics, is the old prayer hall. The 150-year-old hall with only partial brick walls and arches left, are covered by Bodhi tree roots. It is the origin of the name of the old hall. While this is the only attraction planned for today, I soon locate another.
Wat Pa Krathum is a small temple ruin more than 200 years old in Phrommanee subdistrict, Mueang district. The highlight of this temple is the way the roots of a Bodhi tree climb around the ordination hall and cling to prevent it from collapsing completely. This is one of quite a few I have visited that are preserved in this way. It's now a question of finding some lunch before we head to the plot.
We arrive at the plot in more comfortable conditions than we did last week, greeted with a gentle breeze blowing over the land. As promised, a machine has been at work removing the trees and scrub and the plot looks much better. The next stage requires accepting some pain. While we could build on the land as it stands, the recommendation is to raise the soil level considering the location surrounded by hills. While it's common to add soil in the floodplain, it needs to be added here too, given the water may run off the surrounding hills. In addition to that, better views of the surrounding scenery would be available. I need to adjust my finances, but work can start immediately. Actually, I don't plan to start building for at least six months taking us through the rains season giving the soil chance to settle. We can make payments in stages and this removes the uncertainty.
Tomorrow there's another appointment this time for Katoon in Pak Chong and it's here we booked accommodation for the night. Well, it would have made sense to make two separate day trips, but the appointment is very early in the morning so, it would be quite inconvenient to have to travel again at least two hours from Bangkok.
After a couple of hours travelling, we arrive in Pak Chong and check-in at Number One Apartment knowing that we are likely to have to sacrifice some comfort for convenience. This proves to be the case as the building is quite old and is not at all aesthetically pleasing. However, it is functional and I just hope for a good night's sleep on the bed I will hardly sink into.
