Today my partner has an appointment in the city in connection with her VFS Global UK Visa application. She needs to be at Shoppes at Belle part of the Rama 9 Complex, by around 1.30 pm to meet with her agent before the appointment. Leaving home at 11.00 am leaves enough time not to need using the tollway. Luckily the traffic is light and we reach the Rama 9 commercial complex in good time and park up. From here to the Shoppes at Belle it is not a difficult walk, but the complex has a shuttle bus service well, actually a golf cart service with no golf course anywhere near. This drops us off at Shoppes, but we need to walk a little further to find lunch at a food court. It's then back to Shoppes where Katoon receives the application pack. At 2.00 pm there's a brief interview and recording of biometric data which doesn't take long. It's time to leave but I need to decide what to do next.
Trying to make the most of an opportunity, I ask to be dropped off to see more trains. I could use an MRT station nearby, but Toon is happy to take me to the main Station at Bang Sue. Here I check the departure which I could have done online. If I had, I would have realised that this is the quietest part of the day for traffic. It will be the best part of two hours before the arrival of the next train. I consider abandoning the idea, but it's not long after 3.00 pm with plenty of time left in the day. I decide to head for Hua Lamphong Station, but the best option is to use the MRT, still a 45-minute ride. It's not ideal. On top of that the MRT stops at Rama 9. I've wasted nearly an hour. At Hua Lamphong, commuter trains are queued up to leave, but my options are limited by having to use one of these trains to leave the station. There is nowhere near enough time here, but I do get a train ride selecting Don Mueang to get off. This also proves a bad decision. The smart move was to get off at Bang Sue where I started. The problem is compounded by the late departure from Bang Sue. Getting of the train at Dom Mueang, I still have to take the Red commuter line for a couple of stations to Lak Si. To save time I could have taken the Red Line from Krung Thep Apiwat Station opposite Bang Sue. From Lak Si I now take the Pink Monorail line to KM 6 where Toon is waiting. It's time for some food as we head for Thanommit Market where now at 7.30 pm most vendors have gone home. Things could have been much easier as I now have to fall back on 7-Eleven for warmed up food; we cannot eat out every day. Well, I shouldn't complain. Something is better than nothing.
